Milwaukee & Madison Outfly

Hello Knights,
Since Monday in the Quad Cities, we have traveled to Milwaukee and Madison. Quite the road trips we have had this week. We had a smaller group in Milwaukee, which was nice because we were able to catch up with everyone. In Madison there were almost 100 people in attendance! The weather was perfect and it was a wonderful evening for an Outfly! It has been really fun this week to hear peoples memories of Wartburg and to hear how they ended up where they are at now. Wartburg has an amazing family of alumni.

Keep checking in as we are traveling to Dubuque today and to LaCrosse tomorrow!

Quad Cities Outfly

We kicked off our week of Outflys in the Quad Cities with almost 100 people in attendance. There was lots of reconnecting and sharing of memories. Be sure to check out the QC videos as Christy Colson receives a gift welcoming her to Wartburg.

Keep checking back in this week as the Outfly fun is just getting started.

Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Area Outfly

We had another great crowd last night at the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Outfly and wonderful weather to go along with it. Be sure to check out the new videos to the right by Ro Foege, class of 1960, and my mom, Giny Havekost Beck, '75. Pictures from the Outfly will be posted soon!

Stay tuned to the blog as next week the Wartburg Outfly Tour will be stopping in the Quad Cities (Mon-7/27), Milwaukee (Tues-7/28), Madison (Wed-7/29), Dubuque (Thu-7/30), and LaCrosse (Fri-7/31).

Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Area Outfly Host, Liz Mathis

My life has been blessed with the friendships I have made at Wartburg College. From 1996-98, I had the opportunity to teach in Wartburg’s Communication Arts Department. I cherish the time I spent working with young students in broadcast journalism and made many life-long friendships. A few years later, I was asked to become a Wartburg Regent and gladly accepted that responsibility and honor to serve the college.

A few years ago the Wartburg Alumni Association and Development Department contacted Mark and me about the possibilityof attending the annual picnic at a local park in Cedar Rapids. We suggested the event be held in our backyard; thinking people would like to gather at someone’s home, rather than a public park. Somehow that resonated with people. Through the years, Cedar Rapids outfly attendance has grown and on July 23, we had a record number of Cedar Rapids RSVP’s.

I think we consumed a record number of brats, too. Our new president, Dr. Darrel Colson has been a sport through the entire summer, attending so many of these get-togethers and eating pot-luck with a smile on his face. As we were walking through the buffet line I looked over to see two brats on his plate. Just based on that alone, he’s going to fit in nicely.

Reflections from the Wartburg China Tour

I loved that we saw so many interesting things and were exposed to so many different experiences. And our tour group really made the trip special.
-Janet McAleer

We really liked the fact that the days were packed full of interesting things to do. Other tours often stop sightseeing by late afternoon; our group kept going until 9 or 10 at night. It was so well organized that everything ran like clockwork.
-Gene & Alise Oltrogge

I liked meeting people on the trip and learning from the guides. The variety of adventures was fun.
